Understanding the Timelines

These timelines, taken from separate versions made by the Plumas County Sheriff's Office (PCSO), have been reassembled so as to resemble the originals as much as possible. Some obvious errors have been corrected, and several entries have been rearranged to better reflect their proper position in the timeline. Each separate timeline has been coded so that, when combined, there are several ways to easily discern from which timeline each entry originated.

A timecode has been added (in bold font) before each event enty. This code lists the full date and time (if known) as well as from which timeline the event entry was taken. The graphic below breaks down how to read the timecode:

The time of day is listed in military/24-hour time in which '1530' translates as 3:30 pm.

When dates or times are not known, ?s replace the unknown data. If an entry occured in April 1981 but the date in April is not known, it would be listed as 8104??. If the time of day is not known for an entry, it is also listed as '????'.

When an exact date range or time is unknown, but a range is known, it is entered at the begining of the range. That range is also detailed at the end of the entry, as seen in the following examples:

8006??-????a A woman named Nancy of the Downtown Trailer Park says that her daughter did not stay with Tina after the summer of 1980. (summer 1980)

8103??-????a Jack, who lives across from the Wheelers, asked James S. Jr. to get Sue so she could meet his friend, Daryl J. (2-3 weeks before the murder)

810411-1300b Chuck and Henry visit with Kathy G. for about thirty minutes, outside her residence, states Kathy. (afternoon)

810411-2130b Johnny and Dana are observed hitchhiking in front of Van Gas near the Exxon station by Jackie A. Approximate time: 9:30 or 10:00 pm. 

As you see above, not only are origins of timeline entries discernable by the a/b in the timecode, the color of each entry's text is also a clear indicator.

These additions to the entries are meant to make your own mashups of this wealth of information easy to assemble and understand. For instance, the timecode is alphabet-sensitive so as to properly display when added and organized in spreadsheets and other formatting protocols.

When available, the LE member(s) responsible for each entry appear at the end of siad enty, as in <Crim> or <Thomas>. If the same entry is credited to multiple officers, each are listed. Unfortunately, Timeline A has none of this information available, and Timeline B's credit information is incomplete and/or too blurry to read.
