THE SET-UP

This section is still being re-written. It concentrates on events going on behind-the-scenes as life supposedly went on as normal at #28.

As of around February of 1981, things were falling apart for the murderers: Marty had been fired, and kicked out of 26 when Marilyn ('Loon') found out about Marty's affair with Sue. He was living in Reno with his old Carny pal, Bo Boubede (BOO-buh-day). Meanwhile, Wade Meeks was still having an affair with Loon, and they both wanted Marty completely out of the picture, once and for all. Loon also wanted Sue dead for her part in the affair. Loon felt she could sleep with anyone, but her men could never stray. Marty would pay by being set up for murder, and Sue would pay with her life.

Wade wasn't the only Meeks with motive. Mama Meeks thought Sheila's baby was Richard's, meaning it would be her first grand-child. She wanted the baby, but Sue put it up for adoption. Multiple Meeks wanted revenge on Sue, despite the fact Sheila knew others were just as likely the baby's sperm-donor. For instance, police reports cite multiple friends of Dana's knowing he'd been scared shitless Sheila's baby was his. However, Sheila ran for 40+ years with the lie that the baby was DEFINITELY Richard's, and the Meeks are evidently dumb enough to believe her.

Sheila hated her family and wanted out.She obviously figured the Meeks would take her and the kid in, which explains, in part, why she lied about Richard being the father. But Sue gave the baby up and, with it, Sheila's supposed ticket out of 28. Sheila wanted Sue dead. Hell, in actuality, Sheila didn't care if her whole family were dead.

This section will flesh out what happened in the lead-up to the murders, explaining how each of the above- and others- conspired to kill Sue, how (and WHY) April 11-12 was chosen for the murders, and how their meticulous plans had already gone to shit before they were put into motion.
